Water temperature in Tenerife

From 17°C in winter to 24°C in summer — everything you need to know to plan your trip

Temperate waters year-round

One of Tenerife's great strengths for diving is the stability of its water temperature. Thanks to the Canary Current, the water never drops below 17°C in winter and rarely exceeds 24°C in summer. An ideal range for marine biodiversity and diver comfort throughout the year.

Which wetsuit to choose?

December — March 17 — 18°C

7 mm or 5 mm + hood and gloves

Cold-sensitive divers should opt for the 7 mm or a semi-dry suit.

April — June 19 — 21°C

5 mm full wetsuit

The 5 mm is comfortable for most divers on one-hour dives.

July — September 22 — 24°C

3 mm wetsuit or shorty

Cold-resistant divers can make do with a shorty.

October — November 21 — 23°C

5 mm wetsuit

The 5 mm becomes comfortable again as autumn brings cooler water.

Visibility by season

Visibility in Tenerife is generally excellent year-round, averaging 20 to 25 metres. It peaks in winter (sometimes exceeding 30 m) and dips in summer during seasonal upwellings — bad news for visibility but excellent news for marine biodiversity.
